Florida Renters Insurance
Renters insurance covers those who rent or lease a home or condo against damaged or stolen personal possessions. Coverage may also include personal liability and additional living expenses.
Your Home. Your World. Our Family.
Although there are no state laws or regulations that require renters insurance, a landlord or property management company may require you to sign up for a policy. Additionally, your apartment complex may require coverage. However, obtaining the renters insurance provided by your apartment complex may only provide liability coverage. If renters insurance is optional, ask yourself if you can afford to replace all of your possessions if they were damaged, destroyed, or lost. If your answer is no, renters insurance is a smart buy.
Anyone who rents an apartment or home and wishes to protect personal belongings with the proper insurance coverage.
We recommend that everyone who rents or leases carry a renters insurance policy. At the very least, a policy that covers your personal property and renter’s liability insurance to protect you in an emergency. These policies generally cover anyone who lives in a leased space all year round, as well as people who:
- Lease a space temporarily while working at a temporary job
- Lease a home seasonally for vacation purposes
- Lease off-campus space while studying at college
- College students living off-campus
Dwelling Fire Coverage Options (DP-3 form) is the most comprehensive dwelling fire coverage available. As an open perils/all risk policy, real property (both dwelling and other structures) will be covered for all types of damage, except those exclusions named in the policy. However, damaged personal property (all the items inside the dwelling and other structures) is covered on a named perils basis.
DP-3 form exclusions vary, but will typically include some or all of the following:
- Water damage
- Laws and ordinances
- Intentional loss
- Mold, rust, rot and other gradual losses
- Certain types of water damage
- Earth movement, such as earthquakes
- Governmental action
